The Passing of Alexander Bruce Calder Dalgarno

It is with great sadness that the Regiment announces the passing of Alexander “Bruce” Calder Dalgarno on 31 May, 2020.
Born July 6, 1923 in Dunkirk, Saskatchewan, he was a member of the British Columbia Dragons and served in Italy with the Regiment during World War 2.
Serving as a radio operator in Lieutenant Colonel Vokes’ Sherman, he was in one of the first tanks to breach the German’s Gothic Line in Italy at Point 204.
After being captured by German Troops, he spent his last 9 months of the war as a POW. As part of the Regiment’s “Canada Remembers” trip, he re-visited Italy in 2004, joined by his grandson, Chris Cherkewich.
In 1964 Bruce married Lois Letourneau and they were happily married for the next 55 years until Lois’s passing in March 2019. A private family service will be held with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon, beside his wife Lois.
